    Correct, which is why I stuck with their terminology of "financial responsibility". You can have insurance, a bond, or be self-insured with the proper paperwork.

    I believe this is still incorrect. Proof only has to be shown when you are in an accident and then only to the court and to the BMV when requested in writing.

    However, the OP is describing a stop in Illinois and would have to meet the requirements of that state which I am sure are different.

    Utt's have been written for failure to show proof but IMO are Illegal/Improper and will be dismissed in traffic court upon showing proof. It's inconvenient and over reaching on the part of a misinformed LEO, much like Indiana's Gun Laws are misinterpreted - Indiana
