That's why it's important to always take the time to truly research who you are voting for . There are many organizations out there who will show a candidates voting record. The world of the Internet doesn't let these slimeballs past get burrows like before if you take the time to look.
Chalk it up as a learning experience and always take the privilege to vote seriously or you may end up losing your rights.
