Remington Model 1

Does anyone know anything about a Remington Model 1 12 gauge? My wife's Dad gave her one which we are having refinshed. The gunsmith said Remington didn't recommend shooting it as today's ammo makes the weapon unsafe to shoot.

The gunsmith is correct, they are not safe to shoot with modern ammunition, personally I probably wouldn't even shoot it with blackpowder loads.

I love the old rolling block actions though, & I believe Remington still makes a Model 1 chambered in .45-70, anyway it's a nice piece of history so congratulations!

Was that a Model 1 rifle or shotgun? I am not familiar with this model.
