Wonder if it'll be built on WWII tooling..?
Nope, Remington Arms never made M1911A1s, Remington-Rand did, two different entities. Remington-UMC built the M1911s of WWI, beginning in August 1918 and their contract was cancelled in December 1918, pistols were still assembled until early 1919.

Yeah, ol' Cheek's wife ran it through the ringer alright! :D

Got to see it myself: A few things:
    1. Frame: Looked almost cast, didn't have the smoothness in METAL texture as a forged frame gun would have. It's edges were noticeably softer in appearance than say an original Colt or Springer.
    2. Sights: Looked like they were trying to make a Springer Milspec or Para GI Expert. Not GI sights, 3 dot cheap ones.
    3. Trigger was meh compared to other 1911s

Not awe inspriring for the slated 500 buck or more tag... :dunno:

I don't understand why they're shooting for the bottom end of the market? Seems like the SA GI/Mil-Spec, the various Armscor brands, and to a lesser extent the Taurus have that pretty well locked down. Todd Green was right; they need to put out something like a Series I Kimber - quality construction with few frills and a reasonable price. Customers would beat a path to their door.

Sounds interesting but I have to say I'd be more than excited to pick up a nice no frills 1911 for a good price. Especially one from a company as well established as Remington. I love the Springfields and the RIA but I definitely see potential here.

I wonder if it's going to be like a bunch of the other stuff they've come out with in the last couple years: Imported.

That said, if they were forged and nice and cheap, I'd be interested.

    New Remington 1911

I stopped by Plainfield Shooting Supplies today to do some browsing.

They have one of the new Remington 1911's on display in the case. It is pre-production and not for sale. (Forgive me for forgetting her name), but the Mrs. is a competition shooter, and Remington Arms has provided her one of the first models for testing.

Nice gun :), I will definitely be picking one up once they come out.
