I used to love the NHL. Then I moved to Indiana and the strike.... Now I couldn't name 5 players in the league.

I have to admit that it's tough to be a hockey fan in Indiana when there's noone to talk about it at the water cooler. As a Detroit native, I'll always be a Red Wings fan, though.

I'm a Bruins fan... Ray Bourque, Cam Neely, Andy Moog... Those were some of my favorite players when I was a fan.

It weighs 35 pounds, except when you're the one lifting it.

They do all sort of crazy stuff with that cup. I guarantee you beer nuts and Guinness has been in that thing along with a lot of other stuff :stickpoke:

Yes... along those lines. I think each player on the winning team can take it for a week or something like that. Imagine what goes on behind closed doors with that cup

That's the great thing about hockey. The Stanley Cup truly belongs to the fans. They get to be a part of it. The Cup gets lost, stolen, beaten up, thrown in the pool, drunk out of, etc. Every player gets his turn not only to hoist it at the playoffs, but to actually take it home! It's even on display in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto and you can walk right up and lick it, if you're so inclined (I didn't, but I did give it a big hug!). No other professional sport lets even the players (let alone the fans) get anywhere near their major trophy. The Stanley Cup is 116 years old and it's (more or less) the same trophy as it was in 1892. It doesn't get "redesigned and recreated" every few years.
