I'd like to see some real significant progress on this front in the next couple of years - not just talk. Big stuff. Now's the time to get it done.

Isn't it sorta the way things work with these special interest groups? Breast cancer folks play on the emotions of people that have lost loved ones to breast cancer to pry money out of their wallets to fund the fund raising. The NRA does the same thing. You'll get more money out of people if they think you're going to get sick, get wiped out by global warming, or get their guns taken from them if they don't support the diligent, untiring work of their advocacy groups.

I agree with cosermann, it's time to lean on the republicans to get some real stuff done. Aim high and take what you can.

Yeah, the Dems weren't trying to pass any gun control after Sandy Hook... just NRA fearmongering.

I believe our gun rights will continue to erode. The biggest reason simply becomes ignorance. Many people are not necessarily against guns, however, as we have moved into the electronic age, fewer and fewer young people are engaging in shooting sports. The more removed we become from gun "literacy" as a population, the more susceptible we become to buy into the marketed agenda against gun freedoms. If you have never shot or properly used a firearm, firearms are very intimidating, if your intimidated by something you want to limit access or prevent others from having something that is so intimidating. Some will disagree with me I am sure. I may even be completely wrong. However, as a nation I believe we will willingly give up gun freedoms over the next 50 years simply do to lack of familiarity by the common person.

On the NRA, they are a special interest group that is making many folks rich. However, the condition of our current legislative process that caters to big money and special interest makes the NRA a necessary. We need to contribute because if we want our issues heard, we have to buy our way in. Fortunately, most of us live a reasonable comfortable life. What I mean by comfortable is we have shelter, food, and water. People by nature do not take action when they are content. People take action when they become upset or enraged. I don't like it and hopefully after this election this fact will change. Nonetheless, we need a big conglomerate of rich guys to fight on our side against the big conglomerate of rich guys fighting on the other side.

    What? Explain.

The NRA is not just "rich guys". It has a diverse membership with both sexes and all levels of SES.

Get out much? Ever been to an Appleseed or Revere's Riders event? MY kids won't be raised like you describe and I know a hell of a lot of parents who will/are raising their kids to learn firearm handling and safety and, more importantly, our American heritage and history.

I, for one, believe in Liberty. Liberty must and will prevail.
