As I've been told many times here on INGO when I've raised a similar argument,it's not about logic,it's about control.A lib will do whatever it takes to get things their way. They fail to acknowledge that there are other points of view than their own. Please see this thread because I'm certain that most of the answers there apply here.

Yep. Control the language, you control the debate.

My stand on the whole issue is pretty much is summerized by On Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs good read for these grabbers. ask them why they wear seat belts, lock their doors ,have smoke detectors, i own firearms to be prepared, ask them why do they insure their homes or cars. Being prepared is not a sign of being scared or living in fear, If good exists, evil exists. If something ever happend to my children and there was somthing i could have done to protect them and chose not to because what i thought others would think of me i wouldnt be where i am now

Drunk drivers are to blame for DUI fatalities, not cars. this concept is ludicris

If I'm asked why I need (insert gun), I respond " I like it, and here in the U.S. we have a thing called the Second Amendment which gives folks the right to have firearms".:twocents:

Do I need a gun? At this moment, no. So it sits in my holster untouched until the time comes when I do need it. At that point, yes, I need a gun and need it more than just about anything else in the world right then.

More than 10,000 people die each year from drunk driving related accidents. Why does it make no sense to take cars away from all drivers to reduce the death rate and yet it make sense to limit gun crime by taking guns from all owners? It does not.

Almost all child pornography is done using digital cameras. Why does it make no sense to ban digital photography to eliminate child pornography and yet it makes perfect sense to take guns away from law abiding people to change the behavior of law breaking people? It does not!

Gun control is less about the gun and more about the control.

You should see the looks on their faces when they ask me why I have guns, and I reply "to shoot people". It's like the robots on Star Trek that just can't compute. You can almost hear the mental gears clashing. They're expecting "hunting", "target shooting", or some safe thing we've been given to agree on. The box. I'm outside it. If they manage to recover, they'll get an explanation, otherwise they can go back and take refuge in their cognitive dissonance. Doesn't matter to me, but I do enjoy distressing them.

Ever notice this argument, "Why do you need an AK47 for hunting?" The implied notion is that guns are only for hunting and no other purpose (false, we know).
Reminds me of NY Governor Cuomo and his "Nobody needs 10 rounds to kill a dee-ah" statement. As you say, the premise that guns are only for hunting is false. In fact, the notion that the second amendment has anything to do with hunting at all is sadly mistaken.

However when it fits, their argument the tone changes, "You don't need a gun to defend yourself! Guns are only made to kill people!" Now the concept of hunting and sport is completely gone.
It's easy to make ridiculous statements that guns are unnecessary, even if it shows a total ignorance of how the freedom we enjoy in this country came to be.

I thought of this in regards to an article I saw about the Southern Baptist church gun raffle. All the guns I saw pictured were hunting long guns; most had camo prints and were Rem. 870 and the like. But the gun grabber quoted was decrying this because the church was to promote peace and love and these were instruments of violence. Well, the only thing be violated was going to be whitetail or pheasant, I thought to myself.

I guess the best way for them to win an argument is to set up a straw man of a gun owners as being the opposite of what's logically correct. Want to ban normal cap magazines? Paint a portrait of a deer hunter and then ask the gun owners why there's a need to 30 round to kill a deer. Want to ban .50 cal? Paint a portrait of a homeowner protecting her family and then ask why the homeowner needs a "tank killer" round.
Why argue with them? The second amendment settled the matter over two centuries ago. The real fight is in the courts, and at the polls.
