I've shot 'em at 100 yards. Considering the groups I was getting, I've no doubt I could get pretty good hits further out, but haven't tried it. Don't know that they'd have the energy to humanely make a kill much further, though.

I shot a lot of prairie dogs in South Dakota out to 125 yards with a stock 10/22T Ruger with hollow pointsand a Simmons 44 Mag 3-10X scope. One shot kills.

Denver Colorado, Praire Dog, 6 shots to walk in range, 425 yards. One very dead praire dog. I have a friend that shoots on the navy high power rifle team and put 10 shots at 100 yard in one hole with this stock 10/22 T!

Are you sure you hit him, or did he just die of boredom waiting on you to find the range?

    I'M KIDDING!!!
    That was good shooting! :)

Shooting my Savage MKII earlier this week, I was hitting a small paper coffee cup 4 out of 5 at 100. that was with cheap Federal Bulk Pack ammo. With Eley ammo it'll shoot 1-1 1/2" groups at 100. Not a lot of power at that range, but I don't want to get hit by one!

My teenager shot a crow at over 100yds in the field behind our house last summer. I couldnt believe he not only hit it but it dropped right there !!!

Not bad for a stock 10/22 w/ 4x scope. He held over a few inches and went thru the lower chest cavity.... KY windage and elevation does come in handy....:D

I teased him that he probably would have missed using his AR !!! ;)

Raccoons on the farm...out for an evening stroll. There was five (5) of them and I fired seven (7) rounds...mama took two (2) and I missed one. Range was approx. 72 yards when I paced it off. Ruger 10/22 with open sights. I was on a small rise/hill overlooking an open field. Beans were only 3-4" high.

I usually shoot at 100 yards. I've played around at 200 yards, but the rounds drop about 4-6 feet and scatter all over the place. I managed to hit clays at 200 yards about 1 in 20 shots with a 10/22. I'm going to try the same thing with a CZ452 soon and see if the gun makes any difference.

Balloons tied to a stick up to 150 yds, and then a steel target at 200 yds. I was holding over about 3-4ft on the 200yds steel target. I guess at that point you're sort of "lobbing" the rounds onto the target, but I bet it'd put an eye out. :D

Hey Lock n Load - I'm responding to your post in the welcome forum. The topic is now closed, and I can't send you a PM because I'm too new!

:welcome:..... and I wonder if that was me at the MCC ???

I think it was you! You had had your teenage son with you. My friend and I were shooting our ARs, then we went and shot clays.

The last 16 squirrels I killed were all head shots at 50 yards or less. I've never tried much further. I do some love on my Ruger 10/22.

I've seen a guys target at 300 yards that could have fit inside the size of a softball using a 10-22 target that had some nice equipment. I've walked rounds in at 200 yards on steel plates. Long range with a 22lr is a lot of fun!

    Well over 100 yards.

At 200 the 40gn projectile is still acting like a heavy .22 Short.

The .22LR has more power than most credit to it, and it will kill cleanly at any range at which you can accurately shoot.

The biggest problem I have is dialing in. I've marked on my turrets where the bullet will hit for 100yds, 75yds and 50yds. This is a Mueller APV. I'm seriously considering a Mueller APV Tactical. It is basically the same 'scope but with mil-dot marks and target turrets to dial in more quickly.

I'm also seriously contemplating another .22 magnum. I had one in a Winchester 94/22, but it wasn't accurate and I sold it (regret doing that). If I can get a Savage MkII in .22mag, I'll have both one for out to 100 yards (the LR) and one I can probably push to 200yds with a little work.

300 yards on the cap from a spray paint can. It was safety orange so we could see it easily enough. We were on the 300 yard line at our local range and shooting from a prone position. He had his 10-22 and I had my CZ 452. We both took several shots to get some idea of drop and windage at that range. Anyway on about our 5th or 6th shot we both happened to shoot at the same time and that happened to be the time one of us finally hit it. Of course, we still don't know which one, but we both have fun taking credit for it. . We kept the cap for a reminder of a fun afternoon.
