So today I went to one of the local shows in my area looking for a decent deal on an Ak. I ended up working a deal on a new Yugo M70ab2 underfolder. This is the first AK that I have owned, but I have experience with an SAR-1 that my dad owns. The Yugo seems to be built like a tank, and the only thing I'm not too crazy about are the black plastic handguard a.

Those plastic handguards do suck, at one time, Century didn't use insulated handguards, not sure if they still do or not. If not, those handguards heat up pretty quick.

I put some wood handguards on my Yugo, looks like a traditional AK. The Yugos are solid

    Welcome to the club !
I had the same heat issue in the past with various AKs. My solution is simple. Cut a piece of exhaust heat wrap a little shorter than needed and just lay it in the well of the lower hand gaurd . Just keep it in the middle 80%. TADAAA !
First couple times you get it REAL hot it will be stinky and smoke some but it will go away after several cycles.
Safe some cash any try that.

Welcome to the addictive world of the Kalashnikov! The Yugo M70AB2 are really nice rifles. Solid as a brick as you have found, and if a Century rifle one of the few they did right.

    ENJOY!!!

Ive had plenty of those underfolers over the years. I love the way they look and compact, but hate shooting them compared to a wood stock. Recoil difference is very noticeable to me.

Replaced my plastic furniture with Ironwood Designs.
    It took a little fitting.
Yugos are different, look on youtube for the hand-guard removal.
