This is a problem for me. (catfish)
First, it would be a problem for my everyday survival. A great part of my yearly diet is catfish I catch.
2nd, I would like to know the in’s n out’s of the Big Rivers Fisheries Biologists credentials.
For as long as I can remember you have been allowed to run trot lines and catch as many catfish as you want. Limb lines are restricted to 10 per license in the boat.
I’ll be making some calls Monday. E-mails to follow.
This is a meeting I may want to attend after more research, anybody that wants to attend I may be able to take with me if you are South of SR-10 on I-65….. I’ll mark this thread as a follow.
My biggest concern is the ambiguity in the statement re: channel cats. It’s not clear enough for me.
Can't speak for Mij, but I'm a smoker, drinker, and eater of bacon and all manner of red meat, so... no.Any concerns about eating too much fish as far as toxins?
O.k., but are you a joker, and a midnight tok... nevermind. Can't speak for Mij, but I'm a smoker, drinker, and eater of bacon and all manner of red meat, so... no.

Nature is perfect so it must have been your cooking...Off topic….. but curious what do you do with the BIG catfish obviously people eat them? But I caught a BIG to me blue cat in Alabama and fried it up …. Like other fish and it tasted like crap lol I could have cooked it wrong…… but I blames the fish.
I'm curious to hear the rationale behind the bag limit.
Well I’m 73 ( for a few more months). Been eating catfish from Indiana waters my whole life, so not gonna worry about it now.Any concerns about eating too much fish as far as toxins?
Not sure what size you're talking about, but my eaters are 14"-20".I'm not sure if a bag limit is a good idea or not. But I wouldn't mind seeing a minimum size restriction. I've seen several people keeping fish that seem too small IMO.
As an example on the morning of July 4th, I was fishing near a boat ramp at Cataract and an older guy set up near us on the bank. He caught probably a half dozen channel cats that couldn't have been a foot long and kept every one of them. Not sure what size you're talking about, but my eaters are 14"-20".
Bigger goes back. The smaller ones definitely taste better and don't have as much fat. This also depends on the fish itself. If it's 16' and skinny I would put it back.
Mostly channels or flatheads here.
