Depending on the bullet, load & velocity its starting to 'run out of gas' but will still easily ring steel...but wind can and will play hell with it. Case in point, my range trip today! :rockwoot:

Savage 12FV, factory 26" 9 twist 223 Rem barrel, Bell & Carlson A2 Medalist Stock, Vortex Viper HS 5-15x44 mil/mil scope.

Using data from iPhone 'Shooter' app (75gr HPBT @ 2800fps, just a guess) every round was a hit on steel @ 275yd with a half-dozen hits on the 645yd plate out of maybe 20 shots using 650yd dope. I had a very slight right quartering tailwind so I dialed 0.3mil R windage, and spent the first 10 (yes 10) shots walking the damn ammo on target because downrange there was no wind and I needed exactly ZERO WINDAGE to score hits. Other times I'd get two hits in a row then wind would gust a bit and impact would be a foot left of target.

Longest I've shot prior to this is 230yd, so this was a challenge and learning experience but a HELL of a lot of fun...especially using fairly inexpensive factory ammo. Something about pulling the trigger, the rifle recoiling, then about a second later seeing the plate swing or the splash of the miss...

I have that same gun. i was thinking of geeting a stock for it as well did you put the B&C stock on there/ Also what bottom metal mag system are you using? Sweet looking rifle by the way:yesway:

My rifle is the older "staggerfeed" 4.27" short action, and I'm running CDI DBM in that A2 Medalist. Works great with AICS 223 magazines.

The A2 Medalist is great from a rest or prone from a bipod, but my 10FP 260 wears a Manners T2 and it has my totally spoiled; the Medalist is heavy with a terribly unergonomic forearm in comparison.

Then again, it was 40% the price of the Manners...

Dime sized 5 shot groups at 50 yards. Rings a 6" steel every time at 100 yards, just haven't shot paper at that range yet.

Yeah, the tupperware is pretty awful.

You won't be disappointed with the A2 Medalist and Red Hawk Rifles has the best prices on the internet for those stocks.

Just another 10/22. Boyd's Stock, Green Mountain Barrel, Rimfire Technologies V-block and Adjustable Bedding, Kidd 2-stage trigger (3oz/3oz), Kidd Bolt and Charging Handle, Possum Hollow Forend Stabilizer, Cheap Tasco 24x Glass. New build - still working out the magic torque for the action screw. Best of 242-6x on RBA target so far with Eley Black Pistol, but trying to work it out for Wolf MT.

I'm very pleased with the 5-15; the reticle is subtended at 15x which is very useable, but you've got all the field of view flexibility of a variable power. Glass quality seems good, and there's plenty of elevation - I've got over 17MIL up from a 100yd zero on that rifle with a 20MOA base.

How is that Vortex scope working out? Almost bought one at the last 1500.

the 5-15 is a midway exclusive, if you almost bought one at the 1500 it would have been 4-16 or some other size. i can only assume im the guy you talked to at the 1500, if you decide you should have bought one you can contact me here aswell
