It would be very easy to turn pool water into drinkable water as long as you have the correct tools to do so.

The first thing I would do with any water is to buy a funnel, some coffee filters, and a bottle to collect the water. Run the water through this first, as the coffee filter will help with heavy sediment.

Once you do that, I would run the water through a Pur Pitcher. The Brita is OK, but according to the Pur website, their filters filter out more stuff than what Brita advertises on their website.

The third stage is to remove all the living organisms that can harm you. For this, you need a filter/device that kills as many microbes as possible. I would recommend the SteriPEN. It uses UV light, which basically scrambles the DNA of microbes, which means they eventually die and can't do any damage to your body. Understand that your water needs to be as clean/clean as possible so the UV radiation can penetrate all the water molecules, hence the two stages of pre-filtering noted above. The SteriPEN had two models when I purchased mine: One that uses AA batteries and another that uses those CR123A batteries. I purchased the AA battery model because I feel AA batteries are more common and you can buy them in bulk at Sam's Club and usually store them for years. There are also force operated water filtration/purification systems. There are a few different companies. I also own a Katadyn pocket filter, but it doesn't take care of viruses, which is why I ended up purchasing the SteriPEN.

another idea, use the pool as a bathtub.

Depends on your situation though. If you don't have any other water stored up or can't get it stocked up quickly..or you have no running streams nearby then your logical alternative would be to use it as your drinking water...but get a good filter/purifier!

Why would you purposedly befoul thousands of gallons of pretty clean water that could easily be made potable?
