Her opinion was already changed the minute she asked for the escort. If she continues on with the MDA bandwagon, she's a hypocrite. If she leaves it and continues with her new self-evaluation, there may be hope.Yep, I would. Great opportunity to inspire a change in someone's opinion. Instead, that guy chose to be a dick.
Also, voted no.
There is no greater teacher than failure.
I wouldn't help her at all. Have no problem being called a dick by some on this board. Having armed guards didn't change the mind of Shannon Watts when she had her demonstration during the NRA convention. The idea that this woman would change her mind is naive.
If such a scary incident would get her to think about carrying, my help would be irrelevant.
Providing "security" is inherently different from protecting somebody from grave bodily harm.Actaeon2777 said:Would you provide security for a MDA mom that just mocked you?
I think some people have misinterpreted the question. The question was:
Providing "security" is inherently different from protecting somebody from grave bodily harm.
No, I would not provide "security", but that doesn't mean that I would stand idly by if I felt that her life was in danger.
maybe I misspoke "security".
The woman in the article wished for the man to walk her to her car, in case the belligerent person decided to try something.
Would you walk her to her car as she asked? Or just walk away?

The title of the THR article is worded provocatively. "Question of the Day: Would You Provide Security for a ‘Disarmenter’ Who’d Mocked You?"
The woman didn't ask for someone to "provide security", she was uncomfortable and asked someone to walk her to her car. Politics and personal opinions aside, If someone is being sincere and honestly feels uncomfortable enough to ask, I have a hard time imagining a scenario where I would deny the request.
some yuppie soccer Mom type wear(ing) a “Moms Demand Action” t-shirt spotted me and the sidearm on my hip and immediately started ranting about how I was dangerous and scary, that my big, bad SigSauer made her nervous, how did she know I wasn’t going to shoot everybody in the joint, etc.
Why do you think that she could not be sincere? There is a world of difference between confronting a peaceful person carrying a holstered gun and someone that is belligerent and aggressive. From the article:
She couldn't possibly be sincere. She was trying to exercise control. She "ranted" about how dangerous the OCer and his gun was and wasn't afraid of that confrontation, but was afraid of walking past (not confronting) a thug outside of the store, with no obvious weapon? Doesn't pass the smell test.

I opt to "be a dick".
I'm done trying to wins hearts and minds.
Don't give up on trying to win hearts and minds. Invite someone to the range. The dick would be the one ranting at you for the invite rather than accepting or politely saying no.

I am not done trying to win hearts and minds but I am done trying to convert people. If someone is on the fence, I'll continue to gently persuade them and offer them a range trip. If someone is hostile, but then wants to convert when their ass is on the line, I'm the wrong guy.
