    I'd say that's a true statement.

The Nazis rose to power by promising to bring Germany out of a severe economic depression during the Weimar Republic period (1919-1933). The Germans went through it all: economic collapse, hyperinflation, deflation, severe unemployment. They burned piles of worthless currency to stay warm. They were suffering and desperate, and Hitler promised them strength, unity, and opportunities.

In fairness, that's the ACTUAL unemployment rate. I wonder where we would be on that scale if the unemployment rate were accurate and the numbers not doinked with....

And in order to correct things (in true Keynesian fashion), he also brought war, genocide and unsoeakable destruction

    Could be anywhere
Weimar Germany had many other rarely reported problems including the communist revolution. The commies would show up at any non-commie political gathering with clubs and beat the poo out of anyone daring to show up. In the last year before his rise to power the republic was having 2000 armed political riots a year. People were fed up and the police couldn't protect them (and they had no effective military) so they polarized around someone who wasn't a communist that promised power and stability.

Unfortunately for them that guy was so close to the communists in every other way that Albert Spier later stated that not a thickness of a piece of paper separates the goals of the communists from those of the National Socialists.

Hitler was still a piker in genocide though, compared to Stalin and Mao.
