Actually, realize that that much land mass vapourized doesn't just disappear. It turns into air pollution that will choke the planet. It's highly unlikely that most of the nations of the Earth, let alone the ones immediately adjacent to the new "Ground Zero Ocean" (which itself would truly only be a sea), would survive the following tumult. Picture The Road, with a foreseeable recovery time, but on a global scale.

That picture would not just symbolize the death of 99% of the world's terrorists in a single hour. It would represent the death of about 88% of the world's population, bar none, in a single year.

Let me fix it. See, in this imaginary internet picture, the imaginary nuke or whatever it was wasn't utilized until the people in that area were told to safely evacuate. Then, whoever launched the imaginary nuke in the imaginary picture, did so safely to rid the world of some sort of super-strain of some imaginary disease/virus, like ebola... but it's imaginary counterpart.

Problem solved, because the imaginary problem in this imaginary internet picture was eradicated. No people were in the imaginary blast zone.
