does anyone know what their local police department uses for a carry weapon while on the job? I'm interested to see how many agencies carry the same weapon and how many varieties there are. Lets see how many towns we can name and put a list up of the most common firearms and so on.:draw:
    Sig p229 .357-1
    Sig p229 .40 -1
    sig p226 9 -1
    glock 22 -3
    glock 23 -1
    glock 17 -1
    glock 21 -1

At the LaPorte County PD, we carry a Sig P229 in .357 Sig. So does Porter County PD. Some city PD's carry Glocks. I still think South Bend carries the Sig 229 in .40.

    This should be fun

I'm gonna' toss in a little history with this but, as of 1993 when I retired, IPD (currently IMPD) was carrying Glock 22s & 23s (.40 S&W). Some of the command staff carried Sigs, probably 9MM. Officers working undercover had a lot of leeway in what they were authorized to carry. I know they carried everything from a S&W Chief's Special to a 1911 and who knows what else.

Starting in 1967 IPD issued the following handguns to street officers, more or less chronologically:

    S&W - blue 4" standard barrel - .38 Sp
    S&W - blue bull barrel 4" - .38 Sp
    S&W - stainless bull 4" - .38 Sp
    S&W - stainless bull 4" - .357
    Beretta 92 - SA/DA - 9MM
    Beretta 92 - DA only - 9MM
    Glock 22 & 23 - .40 S&W

When IPD went to the Berettas, we were allowed to buy the S&W .357s which had been issued to us at the trade-in price the City negotiated. I still have that Model 686. We were also allowed to buy one Glock through the police arsenal just before I retired. I bought a Model 23 which I still carry.

I believe IMPD street officers still carry the .40 caliber Glocks. I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm mistaken.

after we get some good input i will try to put a list together to see which is most common in the LE field

You are correct. G22 is issued, with detectives given the option to be issued the G23.

ISP is issued the G17, Beech Grove officers carry Glocks but I am not sure of the caliber.

LAST I KNEW, the Ft Wayne police dept carried either G22's or S&W .40's ( Sigma's ). It was expained to me it had to do when the actual officer had gone thru the academy. Again, it was several years ago that this was true, not sure if it is still today.

In case you are curious the State Guard MP's carry Berretta 92 series, while several of the CID Agents are issued Sig P226. Both are in the 9mm variety...

Greenfield PD duty weapons include the Glock 21, Rem 870 & Moss. 500, and every car is also equipped with an M4 (not sure on the make, but I think they are Colts).

I believe columbus pd is still using glock 22s, the last time I trained with them in mock scenarios there was talk of them switching to sig p 229s, I don't know if that happened yet or not. I do know most patrol vehicles have a 870 and the patrol sups have ARs although they are in the process of having all officers with ARs according to the paper

Now when I was an MP, I had a MK19 or a M2. 50 cal on my truck, I usually insisted on having the ma deuce up, sometimes we had SAWs mounted along with M4s and M9s. In garrison though it was usually just the M9s

The Hendricks County Sheriffs Dept. carries the Glock .45 ACP Not sure what the model number is for a .45 Glock. Most other Hendricks County PD's issue the Glock 22 including mine. We just got new Gen 4 Glock 22's. I purchased my Gen 3 22 with trigicon NS's that was only two years old for $310.20.
We also have Remington 870's and Colt M16A1"s.

The Boone County Police Department issues 1911's.
