    I've often wondered why more consumables don't have tamper-proof seals/lids on them.

    Tub-O-butter? may or may not have one. Ice cream? Same deal.

    Weird.

    It's possible that the margins on these products are so thin that even simple proactive steps would be prohibitive.

    I haven't done a scientific survey of it, but I think most of the grocery items I purchase are tamper-evident by virtue of their packaging or the addition of one of the "remove seal before using" thingamabobs. (Incidentally, the only way to use the product is to remove the seal. It worries me that directions of that sort had to be included.) Anything with a removable lid has one. Granted, I don't purchase every item in the grocery store.

    I wouldn't say it is a myth. There are some sick people out there. But I would say I have never seen or heard of it happening besides tales.
