Here's what the naked eye sees from the bench......
Here's what the 1K yard 36'' steel plate looks like through a 42 power Night Force scope. It actually looks MUCH, MUCH better with the naked eye, you lose a lot with the camera.
Here's a few lucky shots on the plate at 1,000 yards...
It's a Lt. Port, Lt. Bolt Barnard Action/Trigger, with a 1:8 twist Krieger barrel chambered in 6.5/284, Vias Break, 20 MOA Base, 12 -42 Power Night Force Scope, Burris Rings, McMillan Stock.
Built by Steve Braun in Houston Ohio. He's a real good guy, does nice work at fair prices.
They have a bunch of spray paint for the members to use. It is the shooters responsibility to leave the plates painted when they're finished shooting. They even have a John Deere Gator there so you can drive out to the plates.
I want to go there and see how far out I can accurately shoot my 18in Noveske barrel'd SPR. I need a different scope first(this 3-9x40 Burris just doesnt do what I want).
"When I was 19, I did a guy in Laos from 1000 yards out in high wind... Maybe 8 or... even 10 guys in the world could have made that shot... It's the only thing I was ever good at..."
The link in the above posts for Young's Long shot range is no longer functioning. The best I could find was About Us . I did find the range on google earth. The coordinates are 41 34'49.94"N 85 19'52.64"W.
Question; how do you coordinate with the farmers in the surrounding fields so you know there are not people within range of your rifle. I am assuming since this range goes up to 1000yds you are not shooting a 10/22, and my initial instinct says there is a firing line that you REALLY want to prevent having people in front of.
Oh, and BTW:
HHeeeeeaaalllllllldah. Thread, I command you get up and live!
I haven't tried to contact them, I tried the link from the website (for the shotgun related stuff) and it was to the same geocity destination as the link that was posted in this thread...dead end.
Anyone else know if this is still a functioning rifle range?
