NRA-ILA :: Indiana Parking Lot/Worker Protection Bill Passes Senate, Heads to House!

Indiana Parking Lot/Worker Protection Bill Passes Senate, Heads to House! Tuesday, February 17, 2009 Today, the Indiana Senate passed Senate Bill 11 by a 42-8 vote. The bill now heads to the House where it awaits a committee assignment.
SB 11, sponsored by State Senator Johnny Nugent (R-43), would prevent businesses and individuals from adopting or enforcing a policy/rule that prohibits a law-abiding citizen from legally possessing a firearm locked in their motor vehicle while on private property

Does anyone know what happened with this ????

Sure do! Our state Speaker of the House assigned that one to a committee that was instructed to not give it a hearing. If it doesn't get a hearing, it doesn't go to the full House for a vote and does not pass. In short, he killed it. This useless MFer needs to be voted out of the House completely.

I take it back, he's not completely useless. He can always serve as an example of how to serve one's party to the exclusion of the constituents.

ETA: Of note, many of the Democrat (sic) Senators voted to pass SB 11 with full knowledge that Bauer would do this. It's called political cover, as now they can say they voted to pass a pro-gun rights bill. That they did so knowing it had no chance of becoming law is later left unsaid.

    Blessings,
    Bill

The Speaker of the House, Pat Bauer, is from South Bend. He is truely a malignant tumor in the Indiana political process. Anyone on this board from SB? Let's get rid of the bum.

Isn't it funny that people complain about "the government" and continue to re-elect the same people year after year? I think it would be very hard to find anyone who thinks "the government" is doing a better job than it was in the past, but most people blame other legislators (not their own) for the problems. Apparently people don't seem to understand that "the government" is made up of those hometown legislators.

I'm a huge fan of term limits (ideally one 6-year term) and think they would help rotate out some of the bad ones. Ok, it would also rotate out the good ones, but who's gonna argue the point I'm making that there are more that should go than should stay?

I'm losing faith as year after year it dies again. I'm not sure how many years it's been introduced - at least the last three. What happened to Indiana?

If the people of South Bend won't get rid of Pat Bauer then the people of other districts can take his power away by defeating the Dem. in their district. The Dems only hold a slim majority in the House. Take his power away and let him sit on the side lines.

Yep. That's how we got the Lifetime LTCH, when Bosma was Speaker.

Still, though, Bauer leaving the House is a good goal; Once he's out, he can't become Speaker and start this same :poop: all over again.

Who knows enough about state politics to tell us:

    1) how many Republican seats do we need to take the House?

    2) who are the most vulnerable Dems up for re-election? (ie, which incumbents should we target our efforts to defeat?)

    3) are there any vulnerable Republicans who need our support so we don't lose any seats?

A well organized campaign by gun owners to take back the House and take the Speakership from Bauer could have two desirable effects: 1) un-Speaker and de-Majoritize the fool and let some of our bills through, 2) let the Democrats know that their anti-gun nonsense is going to cost them.

I have no particular loyalty to any poltical party. I basically think they are all a bunch of crooks. As I see it, this would be more of an "Take Bauer's Toys Away" campaign than an explicitly pro-Republican campaign.

I think a lot of the worst anti-gun Democrats - like Bauer - come from socialist hotbeds where there legal/lawabiding gun owners are not a big constituency. They look at their own districts and figure that being a rabid anti-gun idiot won't cost them their seat. It is very possible you can't unseat some of these morons because they've greased all the wheels in their district and built up the kind of support that will keep electing them in perpetuity. Maybe they are right that we can't punish them by un-electing them. However, if we can defeat some of their buddies and turn the Speaker into the Minority Leader, we still have a good avenue to put some hurt on these kind of 'tards.
