    Where's the bacon?
Anybody see the stunt this piece of work pulled in front of the House chamber on Tuesday?
    Gary legislator pulls toy gun

Yep. Watched the whole disgusting display. Guy's a tool... He started quoting a study that Rep. Jerry Torr had JUST discredited as "junk science". He accused NRA members of wanting children given guns with their birth certificates, that they should have guns instead of bottles, that we as adults wanted to be paid our casino winnings in guns, not money. (Personally, I disagree. I want my winnings to be paid in AMMO! :D)

I was very pleased to see him in the minority.

    Blessings,
    Bill

Don't we? :dunno: Come on with that hat and blankie they give out, all that's needed to complete the look is a cricket.:ar15:

But whats next? Reconciliation then another vote then on to the Gov.? Or can the Senate just vote on the House bill and pass it on to Mitch or vice versa?
I can't see it not passing but what kind of time line are we looking at?

Good point, but I think he was talking about not just making it a gift to the child but providing it to him/her for use at the child's discretion.

Indiana General Assembly: How a Bill Becomes a Law

Each passed bill goes to the other house from the one in which it originated, into committee, out of committee, and on to the 2nd house for a vote. If it is identical to the version originally passed, then it goes to the Governor. If it is not, it goes to conference committee, where members of both houses hash it out.

    HTH!

    Blessings,
    Bill

How far off the employer's property are you? Are you insured? Do you have security to prevent someone from deciding you are a good place for a "five finger discount" on firearms? Even if you do, how does one get from your place to work? By patronizing your business, someone has just identified themselves as someone who is not armed between your place and their work. Have you not just identified those people for targeting by criminals?

The ramifications are not so simple once you start to think it through.

Guess I should have had a disclaimer stating the preceeding was meant for comedic relief and not to be taken seriously? :dunno:

It would have worked better as "comedy" if it weren't for the fact that it's not too far off what folk who disagree with SB25 have suggested as the "fix."

Again, my original post was just meant to be so over the top that one should have taken it with a grain of salt, especially when the title was clearly marked as containing sarcasm. But, I digress.

Hmm.. well, I'd missed your sarcasm note, too. We've taken to using a new convention lately where sarcasm is in purple, and that really helps avoid these types of misunderstandings and digressions. Can't you do anything right?!

No, I can't. Just like this one time, I read a post and sent my representative a letter asking him to support a bill only to find out he was a co-sponsor. :)

Actually, that really did happen to me.

You either have a very good memory — and put it to excellent use in that retort — or that was one heck of a coincidence. Cuz I did that, too.

I got a reply from my state senator today.

Caleb: Thank you for your e-mail. I am a co-author on this bill.

    Doh!

Next time, I'll remember to do a tad more research before writing my rep to make sure that I don't look like a fool!

    Caleb

ETA - my state senator is Senator Kruse.

So if you intended that as a jab, "well played, sir."

lol ... I followed suit right behind you. And when I saw your later post about your rep being a sponsor I smacked myself in the forehead Homer Simpson style.

I wrote my congressman and senator about my concern regarding the post-secondary exemption:

    Congressman Cherry's response:

The reason that there is an exception for post-secondary schools is simply because the rule has always been that firearms are banned from those properties. With as many school shootings as there have been in the last several years, universities were very uncomfortable with the allowance of firearms on campus. Having said that, the amendment was drafted and offered by Representative Bischoff, the chairman of the committee. There were several members of the Republican caucus who were concerned about this portion of the bill when it was heard on 2nd reading. However, the language was preserved as Republicans do not hold the majority in the House of Representatives.

I hope this information was useful to you. Please feel free to contact Representative Cherry with any additional questions or comments.

    Sincerely,

    Senator Gard's response:

I appreciate your willingness to offer comments and to ask questions concerning SB-25. Your thoughts and opinions on legislative matters are a valuable guide in my work as your state senator.

I understand your concerns in this matter. I spoke with Senator Nugent regarding this specific issue, and he stated that he would prefer that no exemptions exist. However, legislation last year (SB-11) addressed the subject of carry-on-campus, and this bill received considerable opposition from members in both parties. It was Sen. Nugent's hopes to get legislation passed this year during such a short session so that law abiding citizens would have the opportunity to exercise their rights.

Sen. Nugent would, ideally, like to revisit this in the future, but at this time, his primary goal is to get something in the books to give citizens the opportunity to protect themselves.

Discussing this and other matters with engaged citizens is an integral component of the legislative process. Thank you for taking the time to write to me. I hope you will continue to bring to my attention the issues that are important to you as this is a vital aspect of representative government.

    Sincerely,
    Beverly Gard

It sounds like she's saying "We couldn't get it passed with the language we wanted. This is the best we can do for now, with Democrats controlling the House. Vote Republican!"

Just my impression of reading between the lines of political speak.

Considering what has passed the Senate in recent years and never been heard in the House vs. what was heard in both and passed prior to that under a Republican majority.... I would say that's likely correct. And true.
