Thanks for the info guys...I am learning so much. It seems like it would be a good idea to get a bunch of cord to keep around for many purposes. Where is a good place or reputable place to purchase it in quantity? I Googled it and got thousands of places that supposedly carry it.

Go to your local army navy surplus store. Never been to one that doesnt sell it. In fact, I think they are required by law to have it. :):

Or if you want excessive lengths of it, any place that sells climbing gear also sells 550. Its used for non load bearing lines, attachment loops, etc.

I buy the 100' rolls at Hobby Lobby. If you go to their website, you can print out a 40%off coupon and get the roll for around $5.

I buy a roll or two every time I go in there, they have a variety of colors and a lot of accessories for weaving paracord projects, too.

I've even heard rumor of them being used to parachute. But i've actually sewn buttons back on in locations that stretch cotton thread to the limits, namely the ones on my shorts. have used it to extract security screws when a security bit cannot be found. just heat it up and press it firmly onto the screw until it cools.

If you have pets, paracord makes great collars. If you dont have any around, but your pet is, they have you covered. Dogs with them have more potential to be helpful then cats, but if you put one on your cat, they become tactical, and you would own a tacticat. Not everybody has one of those ya know.

I doubled it up and used it as a dock line for my boat once, my brother forgot bring the lines. Also used it on filleted fish bodies to create a chum slick. Lastly, used it to tye up CRRC's (F470) to bring back to camp. I like the idea of using it as a backup pull chord hadn't thought of that one before. keeping it in a nautical theme.
