An old pal stopped by yesterday out of the blue.

I was done with Honey Do list and having a large iced tea at my reloading bench.

Hadn't seen him in a while and he had never seen our new home. So, the tour began, ending back at my bench after showing off my 6ft shelf of ready to load brass.

He said he had something for me, dashed to his truck and came back with a box and a half of Barnes Varmint Grenade 36gr bullets for .223.

He said he could not hit anything with them and wasn't sure what to do with them. He has a slew of ARs - I have not one, yet. Mini 14 guy here, for a long time.

I've never loaded 36gr balls in .223. I usually go the other way, 68gr or 72gr or something.

I looked them up, never seen them before. They are NOT cheap! Garbage for BC, but "grenades" on the label. I have play work to do!

Wow my favorite .22LR is 42gr. That's a featherweight for sure.

I have a little over half a pound of old IMR4198 which should work. Mine is Dupont, not Hodgdon but it will certainly get me going.

Tables show starting load at 3473fps with that powder. BC is .149 so *shrug.*
We'll see if I can get them to shoot in a Ruger or not. I promised to report back.

    Mine are only 38gr.
Are you talking .22LR? I have lots in that range.
... or have you loaded 38gr for 223R?

The bullets my friend gave me are for loading 223 Remington and such. Barnes offers a 30gr Varmint Grenade as well, but even lower BC.
I had never even heard of these!
