DD, I'm sorry for what you and Susan have to endure. Even though I've been around family and friends that have dealt with something similar, I can't imagine what it takes to be directly involved. I'm thankful Susan has someone with such a big heart, and compassion that puts her above themselves. I realize the road ahead will be difficult, but with her strong will, and your unwavering support, I believe she will come out of the other end even stronger.

Well the 15 beans taste alright... but it still ain't done. I guess soaking them overnight first would maybe help... but I've also seen beans that just wouldn't cook.

I always soak mine for at least 6-8 hours.

yeah, so I'm seeing this is definitely a case study in soaking beans. The smaller beans have cooked into oblivion and the larger ones are still not quite done.
