    I wonder if they investigated how many criminals carry openly?

    Where is the question/answer part of the video?

    Safety concerns... I swear to gawd I hate it every time I hear that. If a cop doesnt like the work environment, then QUIT! This guy sounds like a complete tool. I am sooooo sick of hearing about all these little girly-men-cops who are sooo scared that they need to suck their thumbs and lay in their cribs. If this girly-man is with his family and he sees a gun, he is going to be scared... Well he needs to sit in his house and suck his thumb some more...

    "Law Enforcement is going to be drawing down on these individuals--who openly carry." WHAT?

    While my heart goes out to these Civil Servants who were shot in the line of duty, I have to wonder how many of those who were shot, were shot by someone who was OC. The argument just does not hold water. :twocents:

    didnt realize how much i appreciate indiana's position on this issue untill a recent trip to florida and naturally the states between.

    i dont open carry but with fact that florida is a warm state, its not like i was wearing sweatshirts or anything. sitting in a goofy style diner chair or reaching for something from the bottom shelf of a store and now my legal gun owned and carried by a legal person, somehow just became illegal.

    1. Open carry is already permitted in Florida while engaged in sporting activities such as fishing. Please tell us Lt. Wiggum all the problems that you have with fishermen openly carrying pistols.

    2. As a Florida licensee holder I have more firearms training than any LEO in Tampa or Hillsborough County, Florida of any length of service. Stop telling us that icky non-badges do not know what we are doing when we are the ones filling the slots in gun school.

    3. If you draw your pistol on me Chief Wiggum you better have a darn good reason rather than you are afraid.

    4. If you stand against civil rights (and what a wonderful track record Southern Sheriffs have on civil rights) then you cannot claim that you are "for" a citizen's rights.

    Right on brother. You said it.. or well, not said it. lol. What a joke. What about all the other States that allow open carry? Doesn't seem to be too big an issue there. "Now we have to worry about if those people are carrying legal guns" (if open carry is allowed). Uh.. well.. last I checked, I think most felons concealed carry. Also, hey, if you want to determine if someone is open carrying legally. Well, go up, ask for their lincense/gun permit. Run it over radio. Boom done. If the guy takes off running or starts fighting you... well then he is probably a felon. If your not playing Nazi and Mr. Harrassment Officer who needs to give you a 10 min. lecture. Then its no big deal at all.

    And another thought... who cares about law enforcement? Yep, you read it right. Convenience for law enforcement should not be our concern. Our rights and being able to exercise them freely is what should be pursued and upheld. I really don't care how hard it makes cop's lives. Our society should not revolve about making a cop's days easier. They exist to protect/serve us and our rights. Not other way around. THEY take an oath to protect and serve. Not us. And we don't take an oath as citizens to serve them. These pleas from commissioners and officers that complain about the difficulty of their jobs due to the activities of law abiding people is just a pathetic joke to me and I don't care to listen to it.

    "... if someone thinks they can get away with carrying openly, I think they are going to do that". Dude, what a joke. Well, those same people are carrying CONCEALED right now! I mean.. wtf. Stupid arguments. As of now, I don't even think I have heard of a story of a felon trying to pose as an open carrier. Anyone else? Do share. I'm sure there a case or two out there. But its not like its an epidemic. I hope to God Florida's legislators don't fall prey to these stupid anti-gun, anti- self defense arguments.

    FINALLY... Even in open carry states.. MOST people concealed carry. So its not a big deal either way you look at it. AND futher more.. any cop with sense should feel safer working in a community knowing most the citizens are armed, seeing as if he is doing his job and gets in some real heat, someone might just help him out. Its happened before.

    /END RANT!!!!

    edit..
    // begin rant again..

    ZOMG! At about 7min.. that 2nd speaker says "..well, I understand its about people's rights. But PEOPLE'S RIGHTS NEED TO BE GRANTED...". BULL @#$@#$. They do. People's rights are pre-existent. They need to be HONORED and NOT RESTRICTED. Self defense is a natural right. It exists naturally in nature. The way God created it. This, my friends, what you hear that guy saying is humanist socialism. Socialist ideology is all over our country and is primarily influencing the police culture in high populated areas. We "Grant" you this or that. No. That is not American at all. That does not follow the philosophy in the Constitution. You give people their rights, the people who abuse it, you go after and punish.

    Think about what he said guys. "..they should be granted" (referring to gun rights). Oh really? Well then, why don't we just starting granting the right to life, maybe the right to exercise free speech if its safe for the public to hear or uh, maybe we should grant you via permit the right to go to Church?

    // end rant again.

    I live in ft. lauderdale florida now, but I am from Indy. I have my Florida CWP. The open carry bill passed a Senate subcommittee on 4/15/11. I have not heard when or where it goes next. Let me tell you. I NEVER go anywhere down here without my handgun.
    South Florida is a third world country and there's always more than one vagrant begger at "every" intersection in the city.
    Basically South Florida is a sh*t hole place to live and every cop I have met or dealt with down here is a arrogant *******. I am a property manager and a security officer so I deal with the local LEO's quite often. If anybody knows of a decent job back in Indy let me know. I hate it down here and would move back to good ole Indiana in a heartbeat.

    So basically his point is that they can't have open carry because law enforcement will overreact to people who OC. Nice.

    They open with saying that they support the 2A & want people to get guns & licenses then they spend the rest of their time trying to convince others that those with licenses are untrained & scary SIMPLY for OC'ing.

    I can't see how just OC'ing instead of CC'ing causes otherwise safe & good peple to become unsafe & scary. :dunno:

    Methinks that they don't support the 2A as much as they think they do.

    In opposing open carry, Coats is tangling with the tenacious Marion Hammer, the longtime lobbyist for the National Rifle Association.

    Why isn't the NRA doing anything to help? Those darn gun controllers in the NRA, why I ought to . . . oh, wait . . . never mind.:D

    So, by his own definition, he: "spent 20 minutes at the witness stand brandishing his loaded weapon"?

    No one said that the police argument against open carry had to make sense.:D It only need to be made by a guy in a polyester shirt with a tin pot badge.

    Open Carry bill in Florida "did not pass". Original bill amended to exclude open carry. Another victory for the leftys and socialists.
