I think there is a time and place for everything, while I might agree with his message, I don't know if that was an appropriate place to express it.

I'm not sure there isn't a time or place to speak your mind especially when what you're saying is the truth.

While I am certainly an R. Lee Ermey fan, one should always take with a grain of salt anything said by a Marine.

Since toys for tots is a marine (military) program, and he was there representing it (officially or unofficially) it wasn't the time or place to express his political opinion of the administration/commander-in-chief.

There are many many many many many times in the military where it isn't the correct time or place to speak your mind regardless if it is true or not.

He is RETIRED military, and he has earned the right to express his opinions, as he sees fit... Where he sees fit. I know, just saunter right up to him and tell him to put a sock in it. Please let folks know when you're gonna do it.... I wanna watch. He'll likely give you precise directions to mamby pamby land"

He mentioned Toys for Tots, relative to the economy, the event was a USO event. Besides, the USO, AND GySgt Ermy support the military folks, obama does NOT. Deal with it.

When you hire the Gunny, you know what you are getting. A right thinking American that isn't shy about letting you know where he stands. He is standing in front of a group that is mostly composed of other right thinking Americans. He knows his audience. So why get your panties in a wad when he makes comments that most everyone there agrees with.

I thought it was awesome!! thats what we need is more Americans that will say what needs to be said wherever!

the "not the time or appropriate place" argument is why we are here now! Too many people trying to be polite or PC. well when it comes to our kids futures there's never a time to be PC. You turn on terminator mode and kick ass. And that's what the Gunny did!

+1 for Ermey! I guarantee this economy has strangled Toys for Tots, and he's been involved for years, and I have no dout he's seen the impact. Besides that, he's right. Obama and his cronies have been forthright and frank about their Socialist agenda. They just won't admit that their bankrupting of the country is intentional.

Lighten up there Jay. A little inter-service humor apparently wasn't taken as intended.
Maybe those 70,000 lbs ordinance payloads we dropped from 40,000 feet in your support hit too close to your position.

Apologies for failing to react appropriately to what you intended...... you might find it real interesting to experience 70K lbs of ordinance less than a mile away.

    Thanks for serving.

No one was getting their panties in a wad.

That is a very mild criticism. It doesn't seem his panties are in a wad at all, assuming he even wears panties. He seems pretttty comfortable.

Aren't you doing the same thing you're degrading someone else for?

I'd be happy to meet him and tell him the same thing I've said here. I've always been a fan and it'd be great to meet him. I don't have a problem telling people my opinion on or off the internet. Realistically I don't see it happening in the near future. Since you would like to see it so badly though, if you could just fly me out to his next public appearance I'll be happy to take a couple days off work. Or if you could get him to come here that would definitely be more convenient.

BTW, as one of those "military folks" the support is greatly appreciated. The USO is not a soap box for political activism, and using it as such is poor form for ANYONE whether I agree with them or not.

Now stop projecting your fear onto other people, just because you think it's so intimidating to talk to someone doesn't mean everyone has the same issues as you.

he isnt that hard to meet. i set up at national gun day in louisville kentucky one year and he had a table signing autographs for mail call over by my table. on the last day of the show I walked back to my hotel that was across the street from the fairgrounds, and he was leaving at the same time as me and was staying in the same hotel. I asked if he minded some company and he welcomed it. just me and him walked the whole way shooting the **** about stuff. he told me to watch for his new show that was coming out (said it was gonna be called trigger time) and he also told me he had just experienced a fire at his office. I talked to him for a while. At the show he had people that were with him, but afterwards if you didnt recognize him you would have just thought he was another guy. he was very cool and It was an honor to meet and talk with him.

I've met and spoken with GySgt Ermy a few times. As I said, he has every right to speak his mind at any venue he chooses. Your opinions do not eclipse anyone's right to speak, much less GySgt Ermy's. I've spoken to lots of folks, but have been intimidated by none of them..... not even you, sir.

Who are you to analyze what you describe as my fears? You have no concept, but you do seem to have a very inflated opinion of your analytical abilities. Might be a good idea to analyze just exactly what you do or do not know to be fact.
