Off Grid / Emergency Lighting Ideas?

Try aiming the lights UP towards a curved reflector. Mylar (solar blankets, potato chip bags, balloons) is avail. in rolls and is one of the cheapest and most reflective materials.

So would potato chip bags work well in a get outta Dodge situation? Better than newspaper?

this might work in a pinch....

old nuclear fuel rods in water give off a nice blue light for a long time, and some heat, however the radiation is a problem.

Honestly I have a ton of large candles on hand. They don't put out much light, but it's plenty once your eyes get used to it. One of them will burn for over 130 hours, they last forever, and they're cheap and totally folproof.
