I'm a resident of Indiana as well as the US. I'm not a citizen yet. As far as I know according to the law, as a permenant resident I am allowed to buy and own guns. It's just visitors who aren't.

I'm not waiting three years to own guns (citizenship).

    Quote:
Green-card holders and immigrant aliens who do not yet have their green card are both okay under federal law

Edit: I think I need to prove 90 days of residency in the US/state. Which I can do once I find my bank statements.

Non-Citizens can own guns. I have a Canadian friend who is a gun owner and resident of the US. He's working on getting his citizenship. Basically he's in the same legal category as you. Resident, non-visitor, non-citizen.

I just looked it up, and you are correct the restrictions are for "nonimmigrant aliens." That applies for the 90 days too.

So I don't need to prove I've been here for 90 days?

Since it took me nearly 6 months from coming into the country to get my green card I've been here a while :p

This is why I'd much prefer to buy from someone on here than a dealer. I've no problems passing the background check its just a load of hassle.

out here it is south of the river...guess I'm way out of the "1/2" vote. :(

South of the Kankakee river! Oh heck no! You don't get no vote. You are in what we consider true redneck land where there is only cows and corn. But if you consider taxing into the Lake County tax system we would consider gving you 1/64th of a vote.

With me having so limited funds right now, I can basically afford my LTCH, or a gun.

Personally I think without an LTCH a gun is just an ornament until you want to shoot an intruder or take it to the range.

What say you guys? I mean I could just be not impatient and wait until I get a job, and I get paid, but that's gonna be god knows how long away.

Yeah, problem is everyone seems to be at different stages of ready to build.
I'm all for it, I even offered up my place to host it.

    ^This!
I only have a stripped lower but no funds yet to build a yuck AR yet.
Want to get the reloading room done first before I get a sissy AR.
Heck I don't even have a clue on what caliber or type of AR.

Could you do temp work? My sister works for a staffing agency in Hammond (Staff Source) and they are always looking for people to work in the Casino Boats, the ford plant (Chicago Heights I think), some plant in Hammond where they make seats for cars, the Hammond Times, and other odd jobs. It's mainly labor work at these places.

Even if we just get enough parts together to build one, that'd be fine. Folks could get something out of it.

Buy the gun. You will at least have protection in your home and can take it to the range to practice so that when you do get your ltch you are competent and comfortable with with.:twocents:

I have a job waiting... I hope... Autozone just need to wait for the background check to clear. I am so new that my SSN hasn't shown up on the background checking agency's database so I had to fax a form over to them.. yadda yadda.

Hmm, good point. Didn't think of that.

Why doesn't someone just tear down their A.R.that way the people that don't have one or don't have all the pieces can see how it's done I know that would help me out a lot.

If you want, I gut a bunch of ar tools for people to use if they want. Dont remember completely, but front sight puck, barrel wrench with an old chinese torque wrench, stock wrench, and lower and upper blocks for holding everything nice and still.

That'd be great, the more tools the better

Anyone at Blythes in Valpo today? Was there with a friend so didn't get much time to spend drooling over guns.

Lots of Mosins in the rack. And lots of annoying people standing in front of the pistol cabinet. Grr.
