In the early 90's they started ramping things up. With the college push, by the mid-90's, they were able to raise their academic standards and became more selective and turned potential students away.

The campus has done major overhauls of facilities too.

By the Mid 2000's the standards sank to all time lows. It was all about the money then. I even had one econ professor who preached how much better socialism was than capitalism. You know cause socialism works. Tuition was in the trawls of skyrocketing, and professors were told to do everything they could to not fail any students. Honestly my calculus class in high school was harder than it was at BSU. Now it is just another socialist campus. Thank god for the Computer Technology program that has for the most part remained level headed and results driven.

Right now FORBES has Ball State listed in #569-th place for colleges and universities nationally. There are actually community colleges that are ranked higher than BSU.

The problem with the US NEWS & WORLD REPORT rankings is they tend to segregate schools by region, by type, etc. So it allows more schools to be ranked in the top 100 because they give multiple ways to get into the top 100. For example, top 100 regional universities for the Northwest, Southwest, etc. Then Top 100 national universities. Then they have top 100 liberal arts colleges. Etc etc. By my count there are at least a half dozen different "Top 100" school in the US NEWS rankings. So a half dozen schools can claim to be #1 :roll eyes:

But that said, US NEWS ranks BSU as tied for 168th place in the national university category. Even worse for Ball State is that they accept students who score below the state average on ACT/SAT tests taking in over 60% who apply. Not a ringing endorsement for quality admissions.

Even worse news for Ball State is that Ball State does not make an appearance anywhere on the The Princeton Review list of the Best 380 Colleges. Talk about being b!tch slapped!

So if Forbes ranks it near the bottom and Princeton Review doesn't rank it at all, that tends to show that US NEWS over-ranks schools.

I think if you want to look at the US NEWS rankings, then only look at the "Top 50" schools in any particular category. They get so watered down with all their subsets that its hard to really tell what is quality in their rankings.

So my wife made a new account after some technical issues and is now known on here as DarkHorse. Clear your browsers cache, cookies, and saved form data. Does wonders for logging into websites when you know your password is right and the website tells you that it is wrong.
