They are the ones in Washinton who are too fat. Fat with power and money. The whole country should take a day off. Don't do any thing, don't buy any thing, don't sell any thing that would result in them collecting any kind of tax of any kind. Send them in to insulin shock when they don't get their dose of "sugar".

Let assume that the government isn't bloated... I know, it is a stretch! But just for arguments sake, if the governement only provided the minimal services it is actually there to provide (defense for example), what taxes ARE OK?

I'm fine with the argument that sin taxes aren't fair or just... the majority of smokers fall into the lowest income classes, etc. etc. so this tax is regressive. If a single smoker is getting government aid for food (or health care, or housing, or child care, etc. etc.) I call SHINANIGANS!!! In order to smoke, one should sign away their 'right' to government subsidies. Otherwise, the hard working tax payers of this great country are just paying for their smokes. rant over.

Anyhow, ignoring the obvious fact that the government is bloated and spends WAY too much, what kind of tax is OK if so called sin taxes are not? (Don't forget, this is supposed to be a group of staunch conservatives!)

Our fearless, really clueless, elected officials never sit around and think of ways to cut funding or lower taxes. All they do is sit around and try to come up with innovative ways to tax you more and more and more. How many of them do you think actually feel your pain as they all profess to do when they are campaigning for your vote? The only program that is being reduced is the cash for clunkers program because it is almost out of money. It was a joke anyway. I was really po'd at having to pay for someone else's vehicle. How has the federal government helped you? They have helped their friends, the unions and themselves. They are trying to run the financial institutions and the car companies. Now they are going after health care. It is really a shame that the people that we elected to protect our interests are likely going to vote something into law that they have not even read. Once it becomes law, it will be nearly impossible to fix and will do a lot of damage. Hug your parents goodbye if they are over 65 and have any serious health problems. They will be manditorily visited by a federal health care worker to have the end of life alternatives explained to them all thank to the liberals.
