There are a lot of good choices out there.

    Sig 220

    Glock 21SF, 30SF

    A 1911

    HK USP 40 or, 45

    Glock 23, 35

    Don't forget about a good revolver, like a S&W 686 or Ruger GP 100

Everyone should own at least one 1911.

    Fact! :yesway: :yesway: :yesway: :yesway:

    I vote .45

.40 IMO is a pointless caliber. More muzzle flip than a .45, less rounds than a 9mm, more wear and tear on the gun than either 9mm or .45, less power than the .45, ammo is way more expensive than a 9mm, and not a lot cheaper than .45. Plus it's not really THAT much more powerful than the 9mm and doesn't hold that many more rounds than the .45.
Basically the .40 is nothing more than the result of the government meddling in the 10mm and butchering it. (Seriously, that's how it came into existence)

As for which type of .45, a 1911 is always a good buy, (springfield, ruger sr1911, SIG, etc)
I love my XD .45 . I've shot a lot of tupperware .45s, and for a polymer .45, nothing beats it in recoil management, accuracy, trigger pull, etc.
Haters gonna hate though.... :cough: :cough: :Que: :cough:

I went with .45ACP and it would be a 1911 as to brand it would be Colt or STI. I carry a STI 10mm normally in their double stack 15 rounds of 155 gr XTP @ 1500 FPS. I also carry .45 ACP and 9mm Colt 1911 when the 10 needs a rest. There are low end and high end 1911's out there so you have a lot to decide on the one. Remember you can always buy more.

    I have an XDm-45 and a 1911, and I love them both.

The XDm-45 carries 13 while the 1911 carries 7 (or 8)... But the 1911 is thinner [not double stack] and, as such, easier to conceal carry. I carry an extra magazine when I carry the 1911 to give me 1+8+8 but I tend to only carry the mag in the gun with the XDm for 13+1.

The XDm [or an XD] is going to be cheap and reliable. If you're trying to go cheap on a 1911 I'd probably get a RIA Tactical 1911 [I would not go for the GI] like https://us.armscor.com/products/1911-tactical-a2-fs-45acp

45 for sure as far as caliber goes, everybody needs one! :) 1911 is a great choice, Glock 21's rule, as do the S&W M&P's and XDM's. If you get a 1911 I would at least get a Springer, but a Colt would be better!

I own several 45's and a 40. 45's are XDM's and a Kimber. Love them both. Lot's of good ones out there so go with the one that feels the best in your hand and points where you are looking. Nothing but 45's from now on!

I went with a Glock 21 then Glock 30 and then the Glock 36. I carry the 36. The 21 sits in my desk with a light attached to it. The 30 sits in the safe. If I only had one of them I wold want the 30.

I had the 1911 first and it is a very nice hand gun but I like the Glock better. I have a problem with the grip safety on the 1911. I guess I hold the gun wrong. Oh, the 1911 is from Springfield armory. When I carry it I carry it in a shoulder rig. It don't print and is very handy.

At 25 yards I don't know witch one is more accurate. From looking at targets I would have to say the 21 is the one I shoot best. The 36 is the easiest to carry.

Good luck with what ever you decide on. Do you have a good 22? They are a lot of fun to shoot. I really like my Ruger mark 2. I have had a lot of fun with that gun. It is very accurate. The one I have is the slab sided one. It is a little on the heavy side.

I picked .45 ACP because my first semi-auto I got back in January was a 9mm, SigPro 2022. Now I want to add to my collection. So I'm going for a Glock in the famous .45 ACP. I want to get a Glock 21. That will give me one 9mm and one .45 ACP and one Sig and one Glock. A nice start to my little collection!

Yes, a 1911 but beware............they tend to multiply and sometimes ahead of the budget.

Do not waste your money on a 1911 in any caliber other than .45 ACP. Please, it is blasphemy.

So many levels to choose from in so many brands. 1st one....try a Springfield. You will move up from there if you stay with the marque.

XDM 45acp full size feels the best in my hand. A little heavier but that helps with recoil. And in my opinion for equivalent quility its the cheapest option. But opinions are like...........
