That's an early flat latch.....Massad Ayoob loves him some flat latches...

Terrier was my first guess but I changed my mind....If this is anything like a horse race that will be the one it is....

I have got an M&P 2 inch barrel gun made in 1934 or so...There were 250 barrels made up...If that is what it is congrats...

Chief's Special transitional built on an improved I Frame???? That short grip has me thinking I frame but if that's the case that would be scarce and rare...Can't be many...

Never made a Chief Special on an i frame , Window too short for a cylinder that would hold a 38 special.
It is a Baby Chief with the just grip frame short er than the present "J"they are not classified as a transitional ,Just
Baby Chief'S .They were mixed with production ,some had the round sight ,some a smooth ramp sight ,some serrated sight.
All had the round trigger guard,not elongated as in the present "J"s The grip is @1/4 shorter than the present "J"
