Need a scope mount for a Mini-14

Can anyone recommend a scope mount rail for a Mini-14 that you have actually used yourself?

Everywhere I have looked online has mixed reviews. I don't really want one that bolts to the side plate. I would rather have a rail on top.

BTW. It is the newer style with serial number 181 and higher.

Any suggestions are welcome.

What are you trying to achieve? Use of iron sights?

I have a set of ruger high's on mine and it seems to work great, brass doesn't hit the scope. I have a ranch so it ejects sideways and it's a 195 series.

Weaver makes a set of see through that allow iron site use.

Now, if this a target model I can understand wanting a side mount option

No, I don't care about the iron sights. I just want to mount a scope on it, and I don;t really want to use a side mount. Mine is a 187 series, I believe.

I just wanted someone's opinion that has actually used a specific mount because the reviews of different mounts are all mixed.

I like the Ruger mounts because they mount in the factory "half-moon" slots. When I have to remove the scope to remove the bolt the scope stays pretty well zero'd when put back on.

Just something to keep in mind, the slamming action on the mini will destroy a lot of scopes. If you're going to put a scope on it you might consider using some 1911 buffers and getting smaller gas bushings to help reduce the impact.
