I just picked up some .223 and when I get home I add up my ammo. I have about 6200 rounds spread between all my calibers. She says that I might be a hoarder and that I need an intervention. My question is: what amount of ammo do you think is excessive?

Is that all? Heck I have at least that much in .22 alone. Tell her when you get over 100,000 rounds you may be a hoarder or just lucky. There is nothing excessive when it comes to ammo, just go out and try to find some.

I would like to have at least 5k for my AK, 1k for all other rifles/pistols, and .22 is pretty much limitless. I am nowhere near such a stockpile.

I just wish I could afford to get some before the guy that already has a warehouse of x caliber decides to buy out the entire stock. Won't be many more decades before firearms become a decadence of the rich, especially if the libs push an ammo tax (something I see happening eventually). Not even reloading is really cheap anymore.

Yep, strictly amateur hour at 6200 rounds total. I consider myself on the low side with numbers something like:
    10k in .22lr
    5k in .308
    5k in .223
    3k in .45
    1k in .40
    1k in 12Ga
250 in 9mm (but I never shoot anything in 9mm, so....)

I don't think you're a hoarder. Some folks are happy at 10,000 rounds, some folks are happy with a box of 50.

She's right. You DO have a problem.
You're trying to run with the big dogs, but you're tied to the porch.
    Definitely a problem.

The only time I've ever felt that I had too much ammunition was when moving and like an idiot I packed it all into two 27-gallon plastic totes. Which I then could not move by myself, and barely got moved with three people and a furniture dolly. But when I'm stationary, like an idiot, I go online and find good deals with free shipping, and I just exacerbate the issue. Right now I've finally decided to let most calibers slide. I'm happy enough with almost all of them. Still picking up .45ACP and 6.5x55. Until the next trip to the range, at least.

A tip on explaining yourself to the missus: no one ever entered a gun battle wishing they had brought less ammunition. I forget the originator of the quote, but it speaks volumes.
