My wife outed me

I believe his wife was just looking out for the kid.
Guns are made of steel you know, and steel is hard.
She was worried that the kid was going to get a lump on his head which would have had worse consequences for the poor guy.
She sort of lost it and said 'gun' out loud.
I can almost guarantee you that she was not afraid the gun would go off, but that the kid would keep bashing his head until he got hurt.
Boys do that.
