We were driving around town tonight and I decided to stop in at Midwest Gun Exchange in Mishawaka and drool over a Sig I've been wanting for ages. Out of the blue my wife said "I'm buying it for you." I was in shock. Here is the pron required. It's still lubed from the factory and dirty from shooting it...but I took these right away after getting home. I think I'm developing the SIGness...
It's the Tactical Operations version with 4 20-round magazines. It's the newer version of the older blackwater tactical. From my understanding I can put different grips on it and get flush-mount 18 round mags and it'll be like a P226R Elite Dark. Very cool. The tru-glo fiber optic tritium front sight is BRIGHT! Midwest had a fair deal on it based on online prices checked quickly from my phone.
We went and shot it at the little range in Elkhart tonight right after buying. It was very different from the Glocks I've always owned, carried, and shot but it was very smooth. The bore axis feels higher with a little more muzzle climb but I'm still very unfamiliar. The trigger system will take some serious getting used to but I absolutely love it. I did have a couple stovepipes when my wife shot it, but it was probably limp wrist...and the slide never locked back on an empty magazine because I was riding the slide release due to my Glock-grip. I'll have to adjust to it. I carry a Glock 17 every day and the grip frame on the P226R is slightly longer, but with standard grips it appears to be almost identical. It won't be in the carry rotation any time soon but I'm open minded to carrying it in the future. My Glock 17 will be on duty for the forseeable future though. The very first shot I took with the gun at the range was the image below. One single first shot. I wasn't that accurate the rest of the time, but I think it's a good omen. This was at about 10-15 yards. Wow.
