Nice rig for sure. Are you loading 38 special cases or 357 mag cases? 3.5 grains to 4.5 grains are good for 38 special cases. For 357 mag cases about 1 grain more gives the same velocity roughly. Some actually taper crimp these if you don't go too far. Should give you about 1 1/2 inch groups at 25 yards.

I will probably load the wadcutters in the .38 Spl only. When I can get my hands on some JHP's I'll work up the .357's.

My next handgun will be a stainless 686+ with the 3 inch barrel. In my opinion one of the prettiest wheel guns ever produced.

Very nice looking 686 there. I Love S&W wheel guns but haven't owned an L Frame in years. Top 3 are N Frames and bottom 3 are K Frames. Also have 2 other K Frames and a J Frame not pictured

I love my 6" 586 and 4" Model 19. Both have triggers that are silky smooth and shoot like lasers. I had a 4" 586 but traded it for the 6". Now I have .357's in 2", 3", 4" 6" and 7-1/2" if you count the Ruger SP101's and Blackhawks.

Nice snag. I too am a S&W fan. Being as it's a 686-0. Make sure it has an "M" stamped inside the crane. The no dash guns had a recall for hammer nose bushings if memory serves correctly. If the m stamp is there then it's been done. If not you may need to send it in for the work. You could always call and find out from Smith customer service. Either way they are a Fine revolver and will serve you for a lifetime. :)

I found out that one of our drivers screwed the schedule up, so I have to go to Ft Leonard Wood tonight, which meant I would have waited until next Wed to pick it up so***,,I brought it home today instead. :rockwoot:

I just checked for that marking, There is a M stamped under the SN on the frame under the crane. So it looks like I'm gtg. Thanks for the heads up!

I just recently picked up a 686 4in also. I bought a Galco Combat Master Holster Part # CM104B for it. It is a blast to shoot and not to big to daily carry.

I guess I need to look harder or be willing to pay more. I haven't had luck in finding a 4" 586/686 in quite awhile.

I posted a WTB ad in the classifieds section and a INGO member pmed with just what I had been looking for. a S&W 686 4in barrel. Maybe you should try the same thing.

I bought a model 66 back in the early 80's at a flea market. It was my EDC for many years and I will always keep it. I would like to pick up a 686 7 shot one of these days if I get a good deal on one.

Thanks. I was doing that for about 3 months, but gave up. Maybe once I sort out my semi-auto 9mm pistol decision on which one I want, I will post again to buy one.

I have a 6" 686 I "Might" be talked out of. Only problem is I'd want a K or N Frame for it and nobody wants to get rid of those either. Maybe a High Power or SP01 or 1911...... :dunno:

I consider my 1911(only cuz I know I can find those pretty easy:)), but I am looking for a 4".

Congratulations on finding a great S&W all-round revolver. Not too big to carry, great for plinking, accurate enough for targets. My favorite 686 is my 3" 686+ that I put on a big dot tritium, and an extreme duty Cylinder and Slide fixed sight. It has the best DA trigger pull of my "herd," and it was that way from the factory. No trigger job.

If you are going to shoot a lot of .38 specials don't forget to to clean the build up rings in your cylinder, or your .357s will not fit in.

    Best Wishes,
    Tom
