Don't forget the Beretta Nano. I like it a lot. Also like the Walther PPS a lot too. And of course the ever popular Glock. Hard to not look at them too.
Glock 19 and also try a g26 while you're at it, you can use g19 or 17 mag for additional rounds and reduce the print with a g26. Try as many others as you can at the 1500. Good luck.
I tried quite a few 9mm's and decided to purchase a SR9c. I just picked it up tonight after they got a new one in. I couldn't be happier. It shoots and feels awesome.
Look in the Events section.
Find a Meet & Shoot in your area.
Attend, and bring 9mm. (Some guys don't allow steel "brass" in their guin)
Smile.
Make friends.

If they don't, move on to someone else.
They are great places to put faces to names, and try gear out.

If this is a carry pistol, your dad needs something that he can count on every day to go boom. With this, I would say to go Hk, or Sig. Look at the USP series in the compact. If you don't like the grip (which some don't), look at the P30's.
Kahr PM9 is excellent. Small, more accurate than you, unbelievable reliability. But, you gotta hold it and see how it feels. Hand size dictates a lot in your cc choice.

I love my Ruger LC9. I'm a smaller guy, with relatively small hands, though. Very compact for CC and even fits well in some pockets. I agree with others that he should hold and shoot as many guns as he can.
