This story is true and it took place right here in Evansville, Indiana. This morning I was introduced to a gentleman at a local event I was at.

I have promised to keep his name and place of business confidential. This fellow had been employed at a local facility here in Evansville for 23 years. He had a prominent position and had always received a “role model” status during employee evaluations.

This past Wednesday Jan. 6th 2010 started out like any other work day. He parked his truck on the 3rd floor of the parking garage and went to his office. He received a visit from his supervisor, human resource staff and two police officers.

It seems someone had noticed his range bag in the back seat of his truck and reported it. He was asked about it and he acknowledged he did have one in his truck. He was then asked if there were in guns in the vehicle. He told them he had an antique 22 rifle, but no ammunition. He was planning on going to the range after work.

After his truck was searched he was told that he was terminated and escorted off the company property. Not only was he employed there, but so was his wife. He was told that he must call security before he could bring his wife to work on days that she could not drive herself and that he could no longer eat dinner with her in the lunch room. He has been banned from the company property.

This individual and his wife have been devastated. After 23 years this facility had no more loyalty to a model employee than that. With today’s employment situation it will be difficult to say the least to find another job. On top of tha,t what will the reaction of a future employer be if this person has to explain why he was terminated from a job he’s held for 23 years?

You can now see why it is vital that Sen. Johnny Nugent’s SB 25 gets passed into to law this session. There are plenty more folks yet to find themselves in similar situations in the future.

I hope, too, that all of you no matter what part of Indiana you live in consider helping me get elected to the Indiana State Senate in District 49. The current Senator, Bob Deig has opposed this type of legislation for 4 years. He has told Margie and I countless times he could never support it, however, he did vote for it this past session so he could hope to get a favorable rating from the NRA. He admitted to me that he knew it would not get passed the House during last year’s session. Of course the moment that slipped passed his lips he tried his best get those words back.

Remember that even if I’m not in your district you can still help me become a state senator by going to my website www.jimtomes.com and contribute to my campaign.

I have a primary to deal with on the Republican ticket and I would appreciate any support you can lend. As a state senator I can help protect all Indiana citizens no matter what part of the state you live.

I think there’s a good chance that HB 1058 will not survive. Your calls into the state house like I asked for you all to make have had some affect. Also, our good friend, Ashley Varner, with the NRA told me this morning that she has spoken with Rep. Bischoff, Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee, where that bill is assigned.

She’s also talked with the Vice Chairman, Rep. Cheatham and a few other committee members. Ashley has told me that the NRA will oppose this bill also. The reports I’m getting is that those committee members don’t want to be associated with anything radioactive that could be viewed as anti gun.

I call bs. His vehicle was illegally searched? Why didn't he have ammo if he was going to the range? I just don't buy it. And why all the secrecy? Why are you trying to use this as a "reason" to pass legislation when you're not willing to provide facts to back up this story? Sounds like an election year and all the bs stories that go along with political grandstanding.

This has been going on for years.

The issue began in 2002 in Oklahoma, when the Weyerhaeuser corporation fired employees for having guns in personal vehicles on company property. The Oklahoma Legislature responded, unanimously in the House and by a vote of 92-4 in the Senate, by prohibiting "any policy or rule" prohibiting law-abiding people "from transporting and storing firearms in a locked vehicle."

From reading your posts, I get the feeling you lean a little left politically, am I close?

I think a person’s confidentiality and security is important. So I really don’t care what you think of the letter I posted.

Also I am not the one who authored the letter either, nor am I the one who met the person in the letter first hand.

I do however know Jim Tomes personally and he is honorable beyond reproach.

My posts that have [Patriots] in the subject line come directly from the 2nd Amendment Patriots emails I receive as does thousands here in Indiana.

If you have a lifetime hand gun permit here in Indiana, than you can thank Jim Tomes, for he helped write it and he was monumental in getting it passed.

You can visit the author Jim Tomes web site and view for yourself his beliefs.

If you don’t get out and make change then don’t criticize here.

Ooh... Guess I've been kicked out of the [Patriots] threads because I asked too many questions. And I did make change in November 2008, but it's ironic that you use that word when it suits your argument, yet slam us when we do just what you said!

But seriously, just because it says "true story" we're all supposed to blindly accept it? Every question I had is valid and no one has done anything to answer any of them. You have, however, danced around it and made excuses. I've seen everything I need to see...

No chip. Just choose not to blindly accept some email that has been forwarded as truth without any underlying factual documentation. Do you know how many emails I've seen that start "this is true". Do you forward emails you get about Applebee's sending you a $50 gift card if you forward it to nine friends? If people would just stop and check facts before forwarding emails on as truth, things would be much better.

Yep... Won't deny that. But I don't let that impede my ability to ask questions when the lack of facts cloud an issue.

Asking questions, yes. However, since this is an issue that is going on all over the country, as I posted, I am not sure why you would basically call the OP a liar.

That's how it starts. You question something, and you're labeled as a traitor or accusing someone of lying. Again, just questioning the facts. If someone is willing to provide some and prove it true, then I will be satisfied and be appalled at the situation. I really don't think I'm asking for much!

I don't know you. I don't know him. Your relationship to him doesn't change my quest for facts.

Regardless, it is clear I am beating a dead horse.
