I seen your pictures posted upthread. Reminded me to put riding the Wabash and Ohio rivers on my list.

I really like my destinations to be on a shore somewhere.

Abso-freaking-lutely! I've done close-to-shore circles of Lakes Michigan, Huron, Superior, Erie and the Ohio from origination (Pittsburgh) to confluence with Mississippi (Cairo, IL - yuck!) The old maritime shorelines always have old and established enough towns to provide little pubs and motels within walking distance of each other. It makes for outstanding touring with fun days of riding.

For Ohio River, check out Marietta, OH. I've met friends twice in the last three years at the Lafayette Hotel for 3-4 day stays and riding. You can get in a couple of 100-150 mile curvy rides in the day and end it with multiple pubs and restaurants within walking distance on the brick lined streets. The OH River bluffs and WV mountains make for some great trips. Windy 9

It was the "end of the line" for that route. Fascinating history in that place really. But yeah...I used to EIC a sports show at a casino in East Saint Louis. (Think Gary.) It was every bit that bad.

Living in Indiana it is sometimes a long ride to get to the fun stuff.

I work in sales, and my territory is basically the best riding areas of South Central and Southern Indiana. I hate that because I really don't want to look at the same scenery on the weekends that I see all week.

Places close for a long 3 or 4 day weekend with great riding include WV, Athens Ohio area, Corbin Ky area, as well as the Tenn, Ga, Carolina tristate area.

Yep. Maggie Valley has been a great central point for us.
