Looked around tonight but came up empty. Was planning to go this weekend but with rain coming the next few days, do you think it would be a good day or bad day, to go on Sunday?
If your not seeing many year to year in the same areas, try toting an open mesh bag like an onion sack to put your mushrooms in. As you walk the spores will fall to the ground and you'll reap the benefits later on.
I use a pretty good size divers bag with a nylon mesh bottom, works great.
Second time out this year. Found 5 medium grays and 2 large blacks. Spent about 3 hours looking in an area that historically has produced much more. Hopefully next weekend will be better.
Found 3 big greys yesterday. One of them was right at the edge of my backyard growing in some virginia creeper. Some of you guys have had some good outings!
This coming week will be the end in Central Indiana. The overnight lows will be good and we're getting decent rain. Should be a good 5-6 days left. I've found a total of 42 this year so far. Better than 2012 but far short of 2011.
I am almost glad to hear about the miserable mushroom season so far. I thought it was just my woods. 2 this year so far, where we usually find 4 or 5 pounds. I was really getting pissed cause I thought I had trespassers.
I have spent a ton of time walking this year only to find a handful in spots that produce every year including last year. Meanwhile my boss went out last weekend around Monticello and found a little over 400 with his girlfriend. He found all his on roadsides under Cotton woods he hasn't found anything in the woods yet which is about the only place my family and I ever look. Might go out Sunday if we don't find anything I'm done for this year just really disappointed.
