That was so incredibly stupid it made my head hurt. I have guns for over 40 years and have yet to call the police or have the police call on me for anything to do with guns.

If your goal is not to be a member of the police-calling class, avoid domestic relationships like the plague. Spouse trouble, ex-spouse trouble, kid trouble, etc. etc. seem to generate a lot more police runs than firearms.

People who just got dead don't call the police. People who just defended themselves with a gun do.

    Seems logical to me. :)

Interesting how the author provides no study about police calls of gun owners and non gun owners. The anti gun people seem to forget that the police are not protectors. They are responders. They only show up after something has already happened. Unless the anti gun people are going to pay for my own personal police officer to escort me where ever I go and stand watch every night at my door, I'll have my own gun.

And why do they show a pic of a pistol and someone apparently puffing smoke from a cigarette all over? We've had smokeless powder for 120+ years now.

Between myself and my father (at least 60 firearms total), we have called 911 twice in 26 years. Once for my dad sledding down a hill knocking himself unconscious. The other time for my dad falling out of the shower and smacking his nose on hardwood floor knocking himself out.

In fact on the second occasion EMT's and deputies showed up with my G17 in safariland holster on wheelchair and not a word was said about it.

A (naive, ignorant) opinion piece written by a liberal, geared toward other liberals?

    I'm shocked...utterly shocked.

Confirmation bias and group think called, they want 'writers' to stop exploiting them so much.

(then again, confirmation bias and group think is well and alive on conservative websites as well)

As a reserve for 20 years you are so right, when we get a call it is because the crime has already happened , it was fer and few that we saw what was going on, and in some areas it might take police some time to get to your area, one PD i worked at was a township 36 sq miles, it some times took us 10 minutes to get to some calls

In nuc school, we had an expression. Check your math.
Either, you came to an erroneous conclusion because of an error, or your conclusion doesn't even make sense (and we're too nice to point that out).

Maybe, someone that has a gun to defend themselves, has more need to call the Police.
Someone in a protected place, or a better neighborhood, might have need of the gun and the police.

But I guess that's something the author never thought of.
