Wanted to go for a subtle subdued carbon/snakeskin effect.

Basecoat was a grey I made with matte black, ACU tan, and a drop of white.
    Topcoat thin matte black.....

That is awesome. Do you mind telling how you got that effect?

Sure! That's what we are here for right? :)

I shot a solid basecoat of a titanium/grey color i mixed up.....COMPLETELY SOLID. This used some veil (sniper veil, or mesh fabric from one of those stores like JoAnns or Hobby Lobby..etc)
The mesh and veil is fairly semmetrical so you should stretch it a bit for a more natural look. Wrap weapon and lightly shoot in top color.....done!

I masked the Leupold/SN/etc on optic then clear coated to smooth out the finish differences.

I used an IWATA HP-C+ airbrush at 25 psi and about 2 oz total of color.

    Very nice!
Im not sure I would want that on my rifle though, I would be too affraid to use it after it was painted.
I can imagine that on some places like on the top of the mags and such the paint may not last long under hard use.

    Looks fantastic.

    Like me.

You look like a carbon fiber snake? :rockwoot:

And thanks boomboom, I try to blend the transitions to avoid choppy lines. The details are as important as the finish IMHO.

Thanks so much fellas. I really do enjoy it. Like I said in my last duracoat thread, i've been airbrushing for the better part of 20 years. I was just giddy when i discovered Duracoat.

Very nice! I'm not normally interested in the "painted" guns, but I like the subtle look of this, and I don't think it would look bad at all with a little wear since its so subtle.
