If we ignore the need for a carbine (or use it, depending on your style), what do you think of the pistol drills for the Marine Expeditionary Unit?

It's a good CoF, and one that I practice somewhat regularly. Their carbine CoF is good too. Pat Rogers incorporates them into his classes, as well as the Modified Navy Qualification, which in many respects is even tougher.

Ok, having fun at my expense.

Sad thing is that I should be able to figure out these abbreviations, but my mind just doesn't work like that.

Last time I heard "fed up" was my dad, when I was younger: "Josh, I'm about FED UP with you! Get to your room!"

I shot the first portion today.

Suffice to say, I suck at 25 yards anymore. I was hurrying.

Everything else went pretty smooth, except for the reloads. I took too long due to my type of pouch.

    These drills feel "right."

Here is another one to add to your list to shoot, Josh! :D

Sweet. I used to train quite a bit with an outfit that used the FAM qualification as one of their flagship courses of fire... it got to be something of a "big d*ck contest" among the instructors to see who could shoot it the best/fastest, on-demand. They would challenge each other to all sorts of variations (from concealment, or wrong-handed, etc), and it finally got to where one of the guys shot it clean in 3/4 time, entirely from concealment. Un-dirty-word-believable.

It took me many attempts before I was able to pass this CoF on both time and score. It's been a few years since I've shot it; I doubt I could pass it on-demand today. It's tough.

From what I've been told, the FAMs no longer have to shoot this CoF right off the bat; they qualify on a watered-down version at first, and have X number of months to "work up" to shooting this version for score.

I have the FBI and DEA qualification courses, and can post them if there is interest.

    Thank you, Jim.

The Air Marshals' times seem a bit generous to me...?

All I can say is, get out and shoot it for yourself. IME, it's not the times nor the accuracy requirements by themselves that make the course tough; it's making the accuracy requirements within the allotted times. You don't have to be lightning fast, but you certainly have to be smooth.

And if it's not challenging enough, you can always attempt it in 3/4 time or 1/2 time. ;)

Scoring for the FBI is 2 points for every shot inside the bottle on the FBI "Q" target, for a total of 100 possible points. IIRC, 86 is minimum passing; 94 and up is instructor level.

I looked in my files and couldn't find the DEA course. A friend is supposed to Email me the BATFE qual course tonight; I'll post it once that happens.

The 25 yd strings are going to be really tough for most shooters. And, that's probably the strings that separate Expert from Distinguished Expert.
