It depends on who you ask. Order of operations should be followed, but isn't taught anymore. Regardless, the syntax is unclear and will result in different answers depending on how you were taught.

I posted it up because I was arguing with someone and they tried to tell me using PEMDAS you get 1. So, being diligent I looked it up and using PEMDAS shows following the same rules I was taught 27 years ago. Do the math inside ( ) 1st and left to right for multiplication and division

Parenthesis (2+1) = 3

Multiplication / Division is assessed left to right.

New equation: 6 / 2 * 3

Left to right: 6 / 2 = 3

New equation: 3 * 3 = 9

This is why I always eliminate the confusion by grouping the opertions with paranthesis.

Possibly a Granny Smith but beyond that I don't see how it could be apple.

I think you added what was outside of ( ) to what was inside when it should be multiplied
