    It depends on who you ask. Order of operations should be followed, but isn't taught anymore. Regardless, the syntax is unclear and will result in different answers depending on how you were taught.

    But there still is only one correct answer unless you just ignore all the rules and add these () where you want

    I posted it up because I was arguing with someone and they tried to tell me using PEMDAS you get 1. So, being diligent I looked it up and using PEMDAS shows following the same rules I was taught 27 years ago. Do the math inside ( ) 1st and left to right for multiplication and division

    Order of operations followed, it is 9. Therefore the correct answer is 9.

    Parenthesis (2+1) = 3

    Multiplication / Division is assessed left to right.

    New equation: 6 / 2 * 3

    Left to right: 6 / 2 = 3

    New equation: 3 * 3 = 9

    Keying it into the calculator on Google as 6 ÷ 2 (2 + 1) you get 9. I don't think 1 or 9 are right but I don't fancy all that book learnin'.
