    Hey INGO,

My little brother in law just got a Marlin 795, and I have no experience with this gun. I am hopefully getting to go shoot it with him later today.

Question - do these come with a rail? Drilled and tapped?

He mentioned that he wants a scope, so I'm just trying to get an idea of what I need to do to make that happen.

Check out DIP products for a bolt on scope base. I love the one I have on my CZ. Also, tech sights are a great option.

Yeah the built in "rim fire rail" on the 795 receiver doesn't offer much purchase. It seems like it isn't cut/cast exactly right for Weaver accessories and it certainly won't accept Picatinny stuff. I jammed some rings on and they've held so far, but if there is a rail system out there (like DIP) I'd suggest you try it.

Try these from Brownell's. They allow you to go from a 3/8th dovetail, to a much better Weaver type base that will accept a much broader range of scope rings. Here they are mounted on a Marlin Model 60. It's the strongest, most rigid set up I've found yet in dealing with those flimsy .22, 3/8" Dovetails. They provide a much larger gripping area along the Dovetail.

I used a 1 piece base and rings that mounts on the dovetail. Don't remember the brand...was recommended on Rimfire central.

    DIP is good too.

Dovetail on the 795 has been know to be cut off center...check first.
