Anyone heard of an M.J. Greener shotgun? I bought one last summer at the Bargersville flea market. 12 ga, not in to bad of a shape as some I have seen. Got it home and it had black powder proofs on barrels. Still trying to come up with some good bp load combo's using plastic hulls. Can anyone give any advice?

That thing MAY be worth some serious money.

I've heard the name Greener before, most of the time in reference to VERY collectable shotguns.

Do yourself a favor and do some research on it BEFORE you shoot it, clean it, or anything else.

I don't know what model you have, but a quick search of completed auctions on GunBroker showed 2 Greener 12ga's that sold for over $800 each.

Normally, shotguns are "square loads". 1 oz of shot. 1 oz of powder. Use 2F. (FFg).

Most of us use a wad to avoid poor patterning with the old-fashioned wad and card stacks. I use a WWAA12R wad or Claybusters equivalent.

If it's a damascus or twist steel barrel, you shoot at some risk (sometimes very high risk). Get with a gunsmith who knows the old guns first.

Thanks, Manatee. I'll try working something up for plastic wads also. I checked to chamber legth and they are 2 3/4", much to my suprise.

Does it have the Greener patent cross bolt locking system? When you open the action, does the cross bolt stick out the left side?

Check the chambers. It could be a 2 1/2" chamber rather than the more common 2 3/4". You might get away shooting some of the Aguila mini shotgun shells through it.

I checked the chambers with a homemade gauge. They are a little longer than a fired 2 3/4" shell. Should be OK there.
You still might want to consider the Aguila mini shotgun shells, unless you just want to experiment with black powder loads. Sometimes working up a safe and different load is fun.
