I've been using Hoppes 9 for years. It's fine when I'm outdoors or in the garage, but I would like to find a cleaner that works well and has a less powerful odor for the few times when I'm tinkering in the house.

    Any suggestions?

I used Breakfree for a while because of the smell of Hoppes. Cathy thought it was gross, didn't mind Breakfree at all. But Breakfree simply doesn't work very well as a lubricant, IMHO, so I've gone back to Hoppes. As a cleaner, though, Breakfree absolutely rocks, and I've been wanting to get some of the cleaner only versions I've been seeing around.

Pretty much my situation. Hoppes gives Vanessa an instant headache.

Ed's Red doesn't not stink but it stinks less than Hoppes.

I clean things on the living room table using Ed's Red, but I'm single.

That used to be me. Now I'm sent to the man cave:)

You know it gives me a headache too and makes me feel sick to my stomach. So jclark is always stuck cleaning ALL the guns himself and I just try and stay on opposite side of the house. I think we will try these suggestion out.

If that's Vanessa in your avatar then I'd want to make sure I didn't give her a headache too!!

Oh and I just use a little bit of water for the low round "in between scrubbings" and then blowdry with a hair dryer and give a liberal application of lube.

I use rem-oil. I live in an apartment so it works great for me. I can barely smell it. Yes it's not as strong as others. However, it wont burn your nostrils either indoors.

Actually, it will make you run out of the house. Try SLIP2000.

I've been using gunslick foaming bore cleaner to remove copper and carbon from bores. it has nearly no odor. Everything else still gets the #9 treatment. Wife comes in and says "bananas or gun cleaning?" and just walks out.
