    I use a double barrel with salt in one and pepper in the other.

    My pump shotgun has: garlic powder, then paprika, then old bay, then oregano, and finally a bit of cumin.

    I do something similar, but, you know, it's better to grind the spices when you need to use them. So I use a rifled barrel. I know, I know, that limits my ammo choices, but I live with it. It's really worth it to get that freshly ground pepper.

    Look, aren't you in New Jersey? Have you checked with the law code on this? Restrictive states like California do not want you to use handloads. If you do, and you end up having to shoot someone, you're in for a lawsuit that you'll probably lose.

    There are less-than-lethal rounds if that's what you're looking for, but I don't know whether they are safe for home use. You'd better check and make sure. At that distance, less-than-lethal may be lethal -- I don't know.

    Everyone knows oregano has insufficient penetration and doesn't feed properly in many pump shotguns unless you use extra virgin olive oil to lubricate the chamber.
