I have caught the bug and am really digging the old military surplus rifles. If anyone has a nice Mauser 98, I am interested in picking one up.

    Thanks

Don't have a model 98 but I do have a Yugo 24-47 listed here on INGO. It's about the best looking military rifle that I've seen at the gun shows. Except for the Mitchel display rifles. It's a Mauser action. Actually it's a Chec model Z24 modified around 1947.

Depends how much you want to spend. A nice German matching k98 for example can run into the thousands. The Yugo mentioned above are usually in better condition and nice shooters and cheaper. The bolts are a little shorter than the German k98. There are a multitude of Russian Capture German k98s for a little more than the Yugo but come in various states of condition and are mix masters with their own history. Used in battle by the Germans and captured by the advancing Russians to be used for WWIII at some point in time until they became so obsolete that they sold many to the West. There are also other nice Mauser action rifles.

Hoosier8: I guess when I say "nice", I mean something that is a good shooter. I want to use the rifle. I am not looking for a wall hanger. I saw some Mausers at Dunham's in Fort Wayne and they were asking $599. I don't know for sure what kind they were of if they were over priced. I am not looking to break the bank. The Yugo 24/47 mentioned above has me intrigued as well.

There is A Yugo M48 that is nice. I just bought one from another member at a great price with some ammo, It looks new unissued until he fired it a few times.
