    My first handgun was a used ruger p95 9mm. For $300 I never had an issue with it and fairly accurate and budget friendly. I bought it after handling/shooting several until I found something that fit my budget, shot well, felt good in my hands. I suggest doing the same and finding a handgun that fits you. Since then of course Ive upgraded to higher end pistols.

    So far the best answer is the one that said to go to a local gun shop, the "feel" is the most important I think. 9mm pistols are an excellent starting point.
